From manual processes to full production traceability.

The challenge

Langeberg Foods is a fruit cannery based in Ashton with over 85 years of heritage. CEO Edwin Krill knew from day one that implementing a proper system was non-negotiable: the business needed to capture production data, understand costs, and achieve full traceability across its process.

The approach

Over the past 12 months, S-Consulting (represented by Johan Bosman) has worked hand in hand with the Langeberg team to implement Syspro. Johan was based on-site in Ashton throughout the project, working directly on the factory floor. This hands-on approach built trust with the workforce and surfaced efficiency opportunities that wouldn't have been visible from off-site.

The process

Langeberg's operation runs through several stages: fruit is received at depots, moved to the factory for preparation, processed, warehoused, labelled, then exported. Historically, data capture at each of these points was manual, making the process slow and prone to gaps.

The impact

• Automated a number of previously manual data-capture processes across the production line.

• Improved visibility into the process end to end, making it easier to identify gaps and act on potential losses.

• Strengthened traceability, a critical requirement for the export certifications and accreditations Langeberg holds to sell into foreign markets.

• Replaced a cumbersome manual paper-trail process — tracing a finished product back to its raw material origin — with fast, reliable date-coding traceability on cans and labels.

What's next

Coming out of the season, Langeberg identified enterprise asset management as a priority area, and is now working with the Syspro team to build this out. Alongside continued work on traceability and data visibility, the goal is to keep freeing up staff from mundane administrative tasks so they can focus on process improvement instead.
